WMG is a vibrant, cutting-edge research institution at the University of Warwick.

The verification and validation (V&V) team are undertaking a programme of research and engineering across the verification and validation spectrum. The physical world of mobility and infrastructure are merging with the digital world of simulation, AI, software, and data. With the emergence of evermore complex systems comes evermore complex challenges including that of assuring safety.

We are recruiting for a Lead Engineer in Safety Assurance with a focus on Human Factors. This role will involve the development and application of novel safety-assurance approaches including identifying human factors-based safety metrics and design requirements for autonomous systems. The role will involve the application of systems thinking and user-centered design for Connected and Autonomous mobility systems, including user trials, driving simulator studies, safety analysis. The role will further involve liaising with standardization and policy makers for advocacy on human factors consideration in safety of autonomous systems. The role is part of a wider team which includes experts in scenario generation, languages and simulation-based testing and this role will involve close cooperation with this wider team.

You will have engineering experience and you will work in collaboration with industry and academic partners. You will also be responsible for project delivery.

We work from fundamental to applied research, the development of policy, standards and regulation, direct commercial research and professional education offerings. Our programme of work is having a material impact on the creation and application of novel safety assurance methods across emerging technologies: with its foundation in Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV’s) and extending across transportation domains (i.e. aviation, land, marine) and novel technologies (i.e. AI). We are proudly enabling a new wave of technological progress by working with partners worldwide.

The V&V group is globally recognised, with the research and engineering teams sitting on global standards & regulatory committees as the UK representatives (i.e. ISO TC 204/WG14 and ISO TC22/ SC33/ WG9), being lead author of international standards on self-driving shuttles/ pods, and contributing to many more standards (i.e. ASAM OpenODD, OpenLABEL, BSI 1889 & BSI 1883). We have developed the world’s largest public database of test scenarios for CAV’s, Safety Pool™ Scenario Database, and lead on a pillar of the UK Governments pioneering CAM Test Bed programme, Midlands Future Mobility.

We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.
