Hertfordshire Business School has enjoyed major success in REF2021 elevating its position substantially among UK Business Schools, achieving a high ranked position for its impactful research, working with a range of businesses and organisations.  The School is an ambitious and growing organisation, which continues to evolve and develop its outward-facing research orientation, seeking to further expand both the quantity and quality of its research to the next REF exercise, expected in 2027. 

Main duties and responsibilities

As part of a new investment strategy, we are planning to appoint to Reader level dependent upon experience and qualifications.   These are part of the Business School’s strengthening of its research infrastructure and environment.

For the appointment of Principal Lecturer/Reader you will be required to carry out and publish research of international quality in any area of Business and Management and attract external funding for research projects. You will be expected to establish international collaborations and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the Business School. At Reader level you will receive at least a third of your time to do research.

In addition to this you will teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the Business School and assist in the development of a high-quality teaching portfolio.

Skill and experience required

We are looking for researchers with transferrable skills from across the social science field so areas such as Sociology, Psychology, Statistics, Psychology as well as other Business and Management areas are welcome to apply.                                    

For appointment at Principal Lecturer/Reader level you will have extensive experience of high-quality research publications, including the effective completion of PhDs. You will also have a record in attracting research funding. This position will also require you to have extensive experience of high-quality teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students, including the effective completion of PhDs.

You will be proficient in written and oral elements of the English Language and have excellent interpersonal and presentation skills. It will be expected that you have good IT skills, including the use of online communication platforms such as MS Teams and Zoom. Additionally, you will be able to deal with sensitive material with strict confidentiality and have the ability to deal with conflicting demands and priorities with high level attention to detail.

Qualifications required

For the role of Principal Lecturer/Reader you must also hold an Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree, or equivalent qualification, in a relevant subject area. Additionally, you will also hold a Doctorate level qualification (or equivalent), in a relevant subject area.
