Senior Governance Officer

Office for Students (OfS) - Office for Students

About us:

The Office for Students (OfS) is the independent regulator of higher education in England. We aim to ensure that every student, whatever their background, has a fulfilling experience of higher education that enriches their lives and careers.

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Governance Officer to provide a high-quality secretariat to our board, Risk and Audit Committee, Remuneration and Nominations Committee, and to our Directors’ Group which is the executive leadership team.

The role sits within the OfS’s Governance team and reports to the Corporate Governance Manager and the Head of Governance, but it requires close working with staff who support the chief executive and chair such as the OfS Chief of Staff.

Partnership working with senior leaders (including the chair and chief executive) and understanding the strategic context that the OfS is working within is key to success in this role, as is the ability to deal with a lot of information at pace, and to exercise good understanding and sound judgment when documenting discussions and decisions.

About you:

You will be proactive with excellent organisational and drafting skills, take effective minutes, demonstrate attention to detail, and motivate people to deliver required papers on time, balancing diplomacy with tenacity. You will be confident in engaging with a wide range of people including senior external board and committee members. Integrity and discretion are essential as you will manage confidential and sensitive material.

Working for us:

The OfS regulates the higher education sector on behalf of all students. We value diversity and the wealth of perspectives, experience and ideas that it brings to our work, and we strive to embed equality of opportunity in everything we do.

We recruit based on fair and open competition and welcome applications from candidates regardless of age, disability, race and ethnicity, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation and socio-economic background.

At the OfS, we recognise that flexibility can enable people to work more effectively. A set of organisation-wide principles shape our approach to flexible and hybrid working, which our teams then use as guidance on how they deliver their business goals. To attract the widest possible field of qualified applicants, flexible working and part time working apply to this role.

In addition, our Total Reward Framework offers a range of benefits to suit your way of life. These include comprehensive learning and development, annual leave starting at 25 days per year (plus public holidays), access to the highly regarded Civil Service pension scheme and a variety of health benefits.

Closing date: Sunday 19 February 2023.

Interviews: Friday 3 March 2023.

Location: Bristol
Salary: £49,613 to £54,222 plus generous civil service defined benefit pension
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 3rd February 2023
Closes: 19th February 2023
Job Ref: 452783
