Job Summary

The Clinical Trials Unit team are involved in research at the forefront of transplant and transfusion knowledge. Providing operational, financial and administrative support to the CTU team, you will handle a highly varied role in which every day will present you with a wide array of challenges. Reporting to the Head of Clinical Operations, you will support them in overseeing the core business operations at the CTU. From taking minutes and drafting reports for senior meetings through to collating information for funding bodies and ensuring grant application deadlines are not being missed, you will tackle an interesting range of projects that are crucial to the smooth running of the CTU. You will help us ensure regulatory requirements relating to our clinical trials are being met, develop management process descriptions (MPDs), standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other controlled documents, and ensure all staff are keeping their training up to date. With plenty of scope to learn and develop in your work, this is an interesting chance to develop a comprehensive understanding of the clinical trials sector.

Hybrid working with some office attendance at either Cambridge, Oxford or Stoke Gifford (Bristol).

Main duties of the job

In this role you will provide a comprehensive business support service to the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), reporting to the Head of Clinical Operations.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Providing support for the operational, financial and administrative aspects of clinical trials and the Clinical Trials Unit as required.
  • Assisting the Head of Clinical Operations and the Head of Clinical Trial Statistics in overseeing and monitoring training compliance and to support the CTU by maintaining task based, and other training, records.
  • Assisting in the development of CTU documents and other materials.
  • Ensuring Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and other regulatory requirements for clinical trials are met.
  • Assisting with providing information and drafting reports and documents, e.g. for CTU management meetings, Research Committees, Senior Management Teams, funding bodies and other organisations.

You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Awareness of NHS research governance and Good Clinical Practice and other relevant guidelines governing conduct of clinical trials in the UK and internationally.
  • Experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Qualifications and Training

  • Honours degree in a relevant science/healthcare related subject and/or equivalent body of knowledge related to a scientific or healthcare field or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
