UEA has some of the most innovative and highly regarded centres for research in the UK. Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate to undertake research under the supervision of Professor Anna Robinson-Pant (the Principal Investigator) on ‘Empowering communities through university partnerships in public health: a pilot project in Nepal and the Philippines’, funded through a Medical Research Council grant. Details of the project can be found in the candidate brochure.
You will work closely with the Principal Investigator at the School of Education and Lifelong Learning, University of East Anglia in Norwich to develop methodological resources and literature reviews/documentary analysis. You will have responsibility for supporting, monitoring and documenting impact activities, as well as leading communication outputs. You will contribute to the team’s academic outputs, including a synthesis report and final international hybrid conference in Manila.
Whilst you will be based in the UK, hybrid-working opportunities are available. There is the possibility of two short visits (1 week each) to Tribhuvan University, Nepal and the University of Santo Tomas, Philippines. The post will be affiliated to the UNESCO Chair in Adult Literacy and Learning for Social Transformation, a partnership established between our three universities over six years ago.
You will have qualitative research skills, with expertise in ethnography and participatory research approaches and ideally knowledge/experience in community learning and participatory research in the Global South. You should have an understanding and interest in health and community empowerment in an international context, including decolonising debates. You will need strong ICT skills and creative approaches to web-based/social media communication; an ability to critically review literature, synthesise and compare studies, to draft reports, blogs and other relevant outputs emerging from the analysis to a high standard. You would be working closely with international partners across education and health, requiring good interpersonal and communication skills.
This post is available immediately on a part-time (0.4fte) basis for a fixed term period to 26 August 2024.
