The University of Portsmouth is an ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and ranked in the top 150 in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.

The School of Mechanical and Design Engineering has a track record of sustained excellence in teaching and research as evidenced by the consistently very high student satisfaction scores in the National Student Survey, the excellent employability record of our graduates, and the results of the most recent Research Excellence Framework submission. We offer a full range of degree courses across mechanical and manufacturing engineering, product design and engineering management.

The School is seeking to appoint a motivated and committed individual to a lecturer role to teach and develop the curriculum in areas of industrial design engineering, specifically computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing, and other core subject areas.

This is an exciting position, which reflects our ambition to deliver engineering courses of the highest standard. We are particularly interested in applicants who have experience in teaching these subjects, industrial experience and/or research and income generation in an area which complements our existing activity. The successful post holder will be an excellent team player, able to encourage, motivate and inspire students about their area of specialism and contribute to the academic duties of the School.

The School is committed to promoting equality and diversity, and recognises that women are underrepresented in STEMM subjects (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine) in higher education. We support gender equality and are committed to the Athena SWAN charter for promoting women’s careers (and men, where they are underrepresented). We particularly welcome applications from women for this post. All appointments will be made on merit.

The University of Portsmouth believes this role may be eligible for sponsorship with UKVI under the Skilled Worker Route visa. Please familiarise yourself with the requirements set out before applying for this role. If you are unable to meet the requirements for sponsorship you will need to confirm details of an alternative visa to work in the UK when applying for this role.

We are strongly dedicated to embedding equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within our community. As an Athena SWAN and Race Equality Charter award holder, a member of Stonewall and a Disability Confident Employer we are passionate about creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, regardless of your background. We welcome applications from all talented people. In addition, we want our workforce to be representative of our diverse student population. Please see our EDI Framework and objectives.
