Background

To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within a specific research project.

The role is required to work on a research project in the Department for Education and Social Justice (School of Education) in the Centre for Research on Race and Education (CRRE). CRRE is the UK’s leading centre dedicated to the study of racism and race equality in education. It plays a leading role in the field of race relations, both nationally and internationally and its mission is to pursue race equality and social justice to close gaps in educational achievement and improve the educational outcomes of minority ethnic groups.

Role Summary

  • Work within specified research project
  • Operate within area of specialism
  • Conduct, analyse and interpret research findings and results (literature reviews, survey and interview, data dissemination)
  • Responsibility of day to day running of and admin on project

Main Duties

The responsibilities may include some but not all the responsibilities outlined below.

  • Analyse and interpret data
  • Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
  • Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etc
  • Undertake administration arising from research
  • Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as literature reviews, surveys, and research interviews
  • Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters
  • Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.
  • Attend regular meetings with project leads (Professors Bhopal and Gale) face to face or online and communicate via email.

Person Specification

  • First degree in area of specialism and normally, a higher degree relevant to research area or equivalent qualifications
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to administration processes
  • Contribute to the planning and organising of the research project
  • Co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
  • Be able to organise themselves in relation to project objectives
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
