About the role
The University’s collections comprise fine art, design, natural history, social history, specialist publications, and an archive relating to its own history and the history of its campuses. These collections are currently dispersed across several sites. The University’s campuses also represent a significant historic resource in their own right, encompassing designed landscapes and a wide range of building ages and styles. They provide a material connection with the past and to the future, and support the University’s wider role in the city and region.
This post combines the oversight, development, and use of all these collections, including the University estate, with learning and teaching in collections management, curatorship, and material culture. The postholder will promote and facilitate the use of the Collections across the widest range of relevant disciplines as a resource for learning and a basis for research. They will encourage the use of the collections more widely, including by the public, through related activities on and off campus.
About you (requirements)
You will be committed to the value of collections as a resource for learning, research, and public engagement, combined with the provision of strategic oversight and guidance on their development. Collaborative and confident, you’ll support the use of our collections and our historic estate across disciplines, realising their potential with colleagues and external partners, and through your own teaching and research.
About us
Bath Spa University is focused on creativity and professionalism. We are guided by our four values of respect, inclusivity, collaboration, and sustainability. We teach around 8,000 students on several campuses around Bath, with most being located at Newton Park, a culturally significant landscape on the edge of the city, or Locksbrook Road, our new city-centre art and design campus. Our research centres focus on the creative industries and humanities.
Our purpose is to challenge our students and staff to realise their talent and thrive, for their own benefit and for the wider good. By doing this we will think and make the world better.
