We are the Student Systems team. We develop, integrate and support the critical student management systems of the university. These commercial, third-party systems keep track of our students past, present and future: their applications, enrolments, fees, results, placements, awards, wellbeing, and much more. And we are looking for someone to join us and help make the best possible use of them.
Our main development platform is SITS e: Vision, a proprietary web toolkit we use to build self-service functions for students and applicants as well as content for staff to view and maintain student records. We will provide training in e:Vision: what you will need is an analytical mind, an aptitude for web development and an enthusiasm to learn.
As you would expect, student data is the lifeblood of the university, and we enable integrations with many other systems including identity management, libraries, finance, our virtual learning environment, curriculum management, and application services such as UCAS. There are a mix of on-premise and cloud-hosted systems using a variety of techniques, so you can bring all your SQL, PL/SQL, web service and scripting skills to bear on maintaining and enhancing them.
And we provide support for the systems themselves as well as our own developments. Regular upgrades and patching are part of it, but you will also be called upon extensively for third-line support: analysing, debugging processes, procedures and data, and liaising with vendors where software bugs are suspected. Your customer service and communication skills will be crucial in this aspect of the job, as well as analytical thinking and data manipulation.
