Interview date: Tuesday 9th May 2023

Introduction to YSJ university

York St John is an ambitious, modern university at the heart of historic York and there has never been a more exciting time to join us. As one of the fastest-growing universities in the UK over recent years, we have a new strategy for the next decade emphasising our commitment to widening opportunity through the power of education and contributing our talents to creating a fairer world, and a more prosperous region. We are putting inspirational learning and impactful research at the heart of this strategy, recognising our academic expertise as our greatest asset.

The School

Law is part of York Business School. Our LLB programme started in 2018 and has developed rapidly; in 2020 we opened York St John Law Clinic, in which students give legal advice and assistance under the supervision of experienced staff, and in 2021 our innovative LLM Legal Practice (LPC) welcomed its first students. Our teaching will emphasise personal and skills development, with a focus on employability. We aim to place law in context to further understanding and develop analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. We have high expectations of, and aspirations for, our students and we aim to create engaging teaching and assessment which fosters understanding and develops valuable transferable skills. We pride ourselves in knowing our students as individuals and in offering high levels of personal support.

Required Skills and Experience

We are seeking an enthusiastic new colleague to join us on this journey. The ideal candidate will have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and demonstrate experience in designing and delivering innovative and engaging teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

For appointment at Senior Lecturer level, a candidate will ideally possess a doctoral-level qualification in a relevant field with an established or growing research profile in a relevant field. Candidates would be expected to contribute towards Law’s developing research agenda.

Candidates must be able to contribute to one or more of the core LLB modules, and we have a particular need for expertise in Business Law modules though we would welcome applications from any candidate who feels they could make a positive contribution to the development of our law programmes.
