A bit about you..

Are you organised, proactive and confident dealing with a wide range of people? 

We are looking for someone to join our distributed team, who is keen to help researchers maximise the quality and value of their research data.  

You will need to confidently communicate with a range of researchers and stakeholders, using your expertise to promote excellent data stewardship in our environmental science. 

You will have a keen eye for detail, be adept at task-switching, to manage dynamic workloads and strive for continuous improvement.

Main Responsibilities

As part of a diverse and multiskilled Data Stewardship Team you will:

  • Promote best practice in day-to-day data management, data stewardship and open science 
  • Guide the development of Data Management Plans covering a variety of different disciplines and data types, to promote FAIR and open data
  • Keep abreast of new tools, technologies and techniques related to data use and identify where these can be successfully employed on projects, to improve quality and efficiency, and enable new science
  • Develop and deliver research data management guidance and training through a range of media 

As a member of the Environmental Information Data Centre (EIDC) team (part of the NERC Environmental Data Service hosted by UKCEH), you will help curate nationally-important datasets concerned with the terrestrial and freshwater sciences through: 

  • Liaising with depositors to guide them through the process of cataloguing and depositing datasets into the EIDC, resulting in citable openly-published datasets with a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) 

Here are some essential skills we are looking for: 

  • A good degree (2:1 BSc or MSc) or equivalent, with a scientific background, e.g. environmental science, physical sciences, data science, or environmental informatics  
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, with a collaborative and inclusive approach  
  • Confident to work within and lead small teams
  • Ability to manage own workload and small projects
  • Evidence of having initiative and working proactively
  • An understanding of the scientific process
  • Attention to detail
