The ULMS 20th Anniversary Fellowships are designed to recruit and nurture a new generation of outstanding and ambitious academic leaders. 10 fellowships each consisting of a supported 5-year development path leading to a permanent (tenured) position will be offered across 2 years to mark the 20 years since the founding of the School and support its trajectory of successful growth, not just in size and shape, but also in its reputation for research and education. In this round of recruitment ULMS is seeking to recruit 6 fellows in the following disciplines:
EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA-accredited, the University of Liverpool Management School is an international management school based in an enterprising and vibrant, world city of culture. Formed in 2002 through the bringing together of a number of well-established departments and research groups in the University of Liverpool, the School provides a world-leading environment for research, management and leadership education. The pursuit of research which is internationally recognised for excellence in its originality, significance and rigour is central to the culture of the School, as is delivery of a strong student experience.
Following the appointment of the School's Dean, Professor Julia Balogun in 2015 and supported by strong ongoing investment from the University and the University's ambitious STRATEGY2026, ULMS is fulfilling its mission to be a globally connected Management School whose transformative research and teaching places it at the forefront of influential knowledge leadership bringing the School together with students, business and society in learning to make a difference.
Over the last five years ULMS has engaged in extensive recruitment of academic and professional services staff, expanding into a state-of-the-art extension adjacent to the Georgian quarter of Liverpool. The School now has over 220 academic staff supported by 90 professional services colleagues. In its wider setting, the School benefits from Liverpool's standing as a member of the UK's leading Russell Group, research-intensive universities and from its location in a city which combines strong cultural activity, excellent transport links, and regional beauty with a world heritage skyline and is highly ranked on quality of life in the UK, while remaining one of Britain's most affordable cities.
The Fellowships will lead to tenured appointments subject to the achievement of certain criteria. They are designed to be developmental and support individuals to become research leaders in their field, by providing dedicated time and support for development of a strong research pipeline. The Fellowships consist of an initial two year appointment as a research fellow, with the opportunity to transfer to a probationary lectureship subject to candidates demonstrating they are able fulfil the role expectations at the end of the two years. The lectureship will lead to a permanent appointment after an additional 3 year probationary period, which will include support for development of skills in teaching but also additional generous allowances to support on-going research development. The scheme should enable not just confirmation in a permanent position at the end of 5 years, but a strong academic profile which would enable candidates to be considered for promotion to senior lecturer via the faculty annual review procedure. At any stage, early achievement of expectations can lead to faster progression.
The first two years will focus on establishing the Fellow's area of research expertise and pipeline, to enable the fellow to build a trajectory of world-leading outputs, with some development of funding experience, and a small amount of developmental teaching experience. Start-up research funds will be available to support conference attendance, international network development and pump priming of new research projects.
The successful fellowship candidates will possess a PhD, or be in the final stages of completion, in a relevant area. They will have already developed a strong pipeline of research as a foundation for delivering a level of success in publishing in world-class journals. Candidates will be able to demonstrate future research plans and the capacity to sustain and extend a high level of output. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required skills. You will benefit from an active research environment and exposure to leading senior scholars that support the development of a research profile commensurate with a leading business school.
