The Faculty of Philosophy is a small and welcoming place to work. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced person to administer our MPhil and PhD postgraduate programmes.
The role-holder is responsible for the smooth running of the postgraduate operations in the Faculty, and will work closely with the academic Director of Postgraduate Studies, MPhil Course Director, and Director of Postgraduate Admissions.
This is a varied and interesting role. The person appointed will be heavily involved in the organisation and administration of the Faculty's postgraduate examinations, admissions, and funding applications. The role-holder manages many other general postgraduate administrative duties and undertakes complex committee work.
This is a permanent part-time post (80% of full-time), for 29.2 hours per week. Due to current workload, there is additional funding so the successful candidate could, if so wanted, work up to 100% FTE (36.5 hours per week) until September 2025. Precise arrangements for working pattern and hours will be negotiated with the successful candidate and the Faculty Manager.
The successful applicant will be educated to at least A level standard and demonstrate a good level of numeracy. You will be thoroughly computer literate with excellent administrative and communication skills. The post holder must be accurate, flexible, be able to take initiative and be adept in building good working relationships at all levels. You must also be able to work under pressure and prioritise work to meet deadlines.
Previous experience of administration in a university environment, and in particular, postgraduate administration, would be an advantage.
The closing date for applications is midnight (BST) on Monday 16th October 2023. Interviews are planned to be in person in the afternoon of Wednesday 25th October 2023 (subject to confirmation).
