About us

The UCL Division of Psychology and Language Sciences is ranked second in the world for psychology (Shanghai Global Ranking, 2022) and UCL is the top-ranked university in the UK for research power in Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience according to the UK’s Research Excellence Framework 2021. The aim of the Neuroscience and Mental Health group at the UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience is to understand the neural and cognitive mechanisms underlying psychiatric symptoms. We utilise experimental techniques drawn from cognitive psychology, functional neuroimaging, psychopharmacology, computational modelling and genetics, both in individuals suffering from mental health problems and healthy volunteers.

About the role

The post-holder will carry out research in the area of cognitive neuroscience relating to mental health and physical exercise, working on the LIFE study, a clinical trial investigating the antidepressant effects of physical exercise. The post-holder will assist in the running of behavioural, functional neuroimaging, and other cognitive neuroscience experiments with humans, including in people with depression; deliver physical activity interventions; record and assist with the analysis of data; recruit and maintain a secure database of study participants; and assist with administrative tasks relating to the management of the experiments and the research group.

About you

Candidates will have an academic background in sports science and direct experience in delivering physical activity prescription; a good understanding of mental health research; and knowledge of and familiarity conducting statistical analysis. Candidates will need to be highly conscientious, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
