Job Summary

Applications are invited for a Network Manager to coordinate and manage the Human Infection Challenge vaccine (HIC-Vac) network.

Vaccines are amongst the most practical and cost-effective ways of mitigating the impact of infectious disease, especially in Low- and Middle-Income countries. Although they already prevent an enormous number of infections, new or improved vaccines are urgently needed. Human infection challenge (HIC) is an excellent way to expedite vaccine development, enabling vaccines to be tested at reduced cost while providing abundant information about disease pathogenesis and mechanisms of protection.

The HIC-Vac network provides catalyst funding to support the growth of the field, enabling pilot data collection and deeper analysis of existing samples. The network draws upon the extensive HIC experience of the UK’s many research groups and brings together our collective experience and shares best practice. The network also works with commercial partners to promote the development and use of HIC in vaccine development, communicating the advantages of HIC to regulators, policymakers and the public.

The Network Manager will work closely with Professor Peter Openshaw (Director) and Professor Daniela Ferreira (Co-Director) to manage all aspects of the Network operations and funding, leading on delivering its objectives and aims, initiating and fostering new links with LMIC, academic and funding partners, and supports the Network’s progression and extension.

Duties and responsibilities

You will lead and ensure effective and efficient operational management of the Network, advise on the development of frameworks supporting HIC studies, and input into meeting programme planning. You will be responsible for the management and budgetary control,  take a lead in facilitating effective communication between members of the network and organising external meetings.

Essential requirements

  • You should have a good university degree
  • Strong management experience, ideally of multi-partner network projects, coordinating events and budget management skills.
  • You must have sound knowledge of the research funding landscape and processes.
  • You will be a self-directed completer/finisher with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
