JEO4C is a £2.5 million research project, funded by the UK’s Economic and Social Sciences Research Council (ESRC), focused on understanding the justice implications of the increased use of earth observation (EO) technologies such as satellites and drones in biodiversity conservation. Over the course of 5 years, JEO4C’s aim is to transform understanding of the conservation ‘datascape’ and to co-develop strategies by which remote sensing can support conservation which is both ecologically impactful and socially just. The project will work intensively in four conservation landscapes in the UK, Spain, Guatemala, and Kenya, while developing recommendations to reshape global best practice on data-driven conservation.

This post is based in the Global Development Institute (GDI) within the School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED) at the University of Manchester. The role is 0.7 FTE for a fixed term of up to 4.5 years, with a flexible start date in early 2024.
