The Institute for Research in Schools – Research and Evaluation Team

Fixed-term appointment for 6 months, ideally from March 2024

22.5 to 37.5 hours per week (agreed during appointment)

Home-based with some travel throughout the UK

£34,000-£36,000 pa + 10% pension + 30 days leave (pro rata, full time equivalent)

The Institute for Research in Schools (IRIS) wants to change the culture in UK education so that authentic research and innovation is part of every young person’s experience.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Analyst to join our Research and Evaluation team. We need someone to provide analytical support including analysis, interpretation and communication of data, enabling us to provide meaningful insights to help IRIS make informed decisions.

We are looking for someone who has an engaging approach to presenting data in both visual and written forms. The right candidate will provide advanced analytical capabilities and have a strong understanding of quantitative data techniques. You must have a positive ‘can-do' attitude and an enthusiastic approach to solving problems. In particular, we are looking for someone who can support the team in both descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. You will collaborate with the wider team, particularly the Deputy Director and Evaluation Lead, to support the charity’s initiatives.

You should hold a PhD or Masters that has provided you with training in statistical analysis or have substantial experience in a relevant area. The ideal candidate will also have some experience in carrying out research in education or social science, although this is not essential. You should have knowledge of the advanced statistical software tools SPSS (or be able to transfer your knowledge of other similar packages) along with a track record of delivering high quality data analysis. Although not essential, we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have some experience in statistical modelling, machine learning and data visualisation.
