Role Summary

We seek to appoint a Business Development and Projects Officer who has enthusiasm and the ability to work with confidence to support the delivery of School and College strategic objectives. The Business Development and Projects Officer is a key post with the School, tasked with supporting the development of new business critical to the future success of the School. The role will be line managed by the Head of Operations and work closely with key academic staff in the School, including the Dean, Associate Deans, Head of Education and Head of Strategy. The post holder will also work closely with key professional services staff in the School, such as the School Administration Manager and the Academic Administration and Quality Manager. This role will involve supporting operational activity related to education enhancement projects, supporting the development of new and additional business opportunities for the School and assisting in the management of other designated projects and / or events in the School. The post holder will manage small projects in their entirety, or manage elements of larger projects, with other portfolio holders in the School being responsible for delivery of other aspects. The post holder will work without direct supervision and exercise a high level of independent working. Future projects and events will be determined based on the business need at the time, which may be School or College specific.

Person Specification

  • Educated to degree level or substantial experience in an education environment or a complex organisation.
  • Demonstrable project management skills, with the ability to deliver against challenge objectives and competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrable ability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders and to work collaboratively, build open, trusting, and effective networks, and bring people together to work towards a common goal. 
  • Ability to devise and deliver project plans and work with key stakeholders to ensure they are delivering the outcomes required.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for different audiences, and to required deadlines. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy, and an ability to work at all levels of the organisation. 
  • A high level of discretion, especially when working on commercially sensitive projects.
  • A high degree of initiative, personal judgement, resourcefulness, flexibility, and a self-motivating approach. 
  • Excellent IT sills with proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools and the confidence to champion digital solutions.
