The University of Sussex is looking to recruit a Media Relations Manager to work within the central media relations team to promote the research and expertise of the university’s world class Business School.
The media relations team promotes the University’s research, its positive impact in the world and the vibrant individuals which make up its campus community.
As a Media Relations Manager, you’ll step into an exciting, fast-paced role promoting research which aims to tackle some of society’s most pressing issues.
Collaborating and working closely with our Business School, you’ll operate as a true strategic partner to our world-class faculty, securing widespread coverage of the University of Sussex Business School’s acclaimed experts and their research across a variety of broadcast, print and digital platforms.
This is a high-profile opportunity to position leading thought leaders driving real-world solutions in a range of topics and subject areas, including but not limited to:
You’ll need to employ multiple tactics to position relevant commentary amid breaking news and developments, positioning our academics as subject matter experts within the media landscape. You’ll need to be adept at developing engaging press releases which convey complex findings clearly.
The role will also include developing stories using a variety of communications tactics and considering how to use central social media platforms to reach multiple audiences.
While interest in sustainability, climate, energy, and trade domains is helpful, your communications talents are what matters most. We’re looking for a confident self-starter who builds relationships quickly and has a keen eye for a story.

Core working hours are from 9am - 5:30pm, with hybrid remote/onsite work. Occasional out-of-office and weekend commitments as required according to press office need.
