This is a unique opportunity for a skilled manager to manage large research studies and international consortia and play a central role in research evaluating different ways of preventing and managing HIV and non-communicable diseases in Africa.

About the role

The Programme Manager will be responsible for the management of the research programme, in particular overseeing the operational and financial management of research grants, supporting new grant applications, liaising with partners in sub-Saharan Africa, UK and Europe and reporting to funders.

The postholder will be expected to support a robust and transparent governance structure for the research programme, ensuring this is aligned with the requirements of the funders and to develop collaborative agreements between partners, in liaison with the UCL Contracts Office and monitor adherence. In addition, the postholder will be expected to oversee the financial management of the research programme, ensuring prudent management of UCL and partner budgets and ensure adherence to agreed budgets.

The post will require ability and willingness to travel occasionally to meetings including in low-middle income countries for the project.

About you

The postholder should have experience of project management in business or research unit and should have experience of financial management with high levels of financial competency and experience of contributing to securing grant funding.

Proven experience of producing reports and other technical documents along with demonstrable analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail are also essential requirements for this post.

Excellent negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to successfully collaborate with external organisations in low-and-middle-income countries and other settings are essential as are strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to make decisions and resolve problems as they arise.
