Assistant Manager (IMEMS)

Durham University - Institute of Medieval and Early Modern Studies (IMEMS)

Location: Durham
Salary: £29,605 to £36,024
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 21st February 2024
Closes: 13th March 2024
Job Ref: 24000238

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to become Assistant Manager at the Institute of Medieval and Early Modern Studies (IMEMS). This person will combine excellent administrative and office/project/people management skills with a genuine intellectual interest in the research facilitated and driven by the Institute. The multifaceted nature of this role may particularly appeal to someone with a higher degree in a relevant field, who is now looking for a professional role involving research support and management.

Reporting to the Senior Manager and responsible for a part-time Administrator, the IMEMS Assistant Manager is a new role at the administrative heart of the Institute. Alongside the part-time Administrator (also a newly developed role) the postholder will be a key member of the Professional Services Team and will be pivotal to the smooth day-to-day running of a range of exciting programmes of activity. This includes: a publishing initiative (for which the postholder will provide editorial assistance); programmes of nascent and more established research; interdisciplinary community building; skills training courses; an MA programme; and public outreach and engagement.

We value equality and diversity and are committed to a healthy work-life balance for all. We strive to offer flexible working opportunities and we are happy to discuss how your needs might fit with the business requirements. For this role, we expect that a presence on site will be essential on at least three days of the week to support core activities. Onsite working is likely to be particularly important during University terms and the month of July, but it may be possible to offer more hybrid working at other times. Wherever possible Institute activities are scheduled to be commuter and carer friendly. On occasion work outside of hours might be requested, but this will not be the norm. Any out-of-hours work would be by mutual agreement and compensated with time off in lieu.
