Brunel University London was established in 1966 and is a leading multidisciplinary research-intensive technology university delivering economic, social and cultural benefits. For more information please visit: https://www.brunel.ac.uk/about/our-history/home.

Supported by a university-wide Professional Development Centre and Careers Service, the undergraduate and postgraduate law degree programmes at Brunel offer the option of work placements to help students enhance and improve their employability. ‘Law Lives’, a wide-ranging programme of extra-curricular activities, that includes a successful pro-bono clinic, enables students to develop transferable skills, qualities and experiences.

Applications are invited for a Lectureship in Law in the Brunel Law School (teaching and research). The appointment is being made to consolidate the School’s strong teaching and research profile.

The successful candidate will have a strong teaching record (or demonstrate such potential) and will be able to demonstrate coherent future teaching and research plans. Candidates must already hold a PhD (or equivalent) or demonstrate that they are very close to completing their PhD.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching across a spectrum of Law subjects, including at least one core module (i.e. Land Law, or Trusts) as well as contributing to other undergraduate or postgraduate teaching. We currently have a particular need for a candidate who is able to teach Arbitration Law. The candidate is also expected to undertake administrative duties within the Law School.

Brunel Law School has a long-standing reputation for research, rated ‘excellent’ in areas that include company law, human rights and international and comparative law. Brunel University London is ranked 20th globally and 4th in the UK by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 for its international outlook, reflected by the fact that two members of the law school staff, Professor Javaid Rehman and Professor Alexandra Xanthaki, are United Nations Special Rapporteurs. The Law School has also been recognised as a leader in terms of student employability.

We particularly invite applications from Black and Global Majority scholars and educators who are currently underrepresented in our field and we wish to emphasise that we recognise this gap in fully intersectional ways. We offer a generous annual leave package plus discretionary University closure days, excellent training and development opportunities as well as a great occupational pension scheme and a range of health-related support. The University is committed to a hybrid working approach.

The position is tenable from 2 September 2024 or as soon as possible afterwards.

The closing date for applications is Monday, 29 April 2024 [Midnight].

Interviews will be held on 20 May 2024.
