Magdalen College seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our College staff as the Choir Administrator, working alongside the Informator Choristarum (Director of the Choir), Dean of Divinity, and the Chapel Administrator.
The College’s iconic chapel has drawn worshippers and visitors for over 500 years, and is one of Oxford’s most celebrated buildings. The Choir enjoys an international reputation, owing to its numerous recordings, and is particularly famous for its annual singing from the tower on May Morning. During term, there are a least 12 services per week in the Chapel, all of them open to members of the College, University and the wider public. Through webcasts and broadcasts, services from Magdalen reach hundreds of thousands of people each year, and are one of the keyways in which people engage with the College.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a historic and renowned institution. The successful applicant will display a flair for administration, be willing to work within a team, have a flexible attitude to learning new skills, and have an interest in the workings of the Chapel and its world-famous Choir.
In order to find the candidate best suited to this post, the College is willing to take a flexible approach to the hours and schedule. The post has previously been four days per week in order to accommodate flexible working requests, and that continues to be an option, although those seeking a full-time position are also encouraged to apply. A flexible approach to working hours is required from time to time, in line with choir events. In planning a shared office space schedule in collaboration with the Chapel Administrator, it is expected that at least one day – and no more than two days – per week could be worked from home.
Full details of the post, its conditions and the application process are set out in the further particulars, available at www.magd.ox.ac.uk/job-vacancies or by telephoning 01865 276033. The closing date is 12:00 noon on Wednesday 1st May 2024. Interviews are expected to take place on Wednesday 8th May 2024, or at another time to suit shortlisted candidates.
Applications are particularly welcome from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic candidates.
