This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months initially, with possibility of extension (subject to funding). Initial probationary period of 6 months. The proposed start date is mid-October to mid-November 2025, with some flexibility.
We are seeking two motivated, independent, and highly skilled Pre-Doctoral Research Assistants to work closely with the principal investigators (Professor Mark Schankerman and Dr William Matcham) on several research projects on topics related to Incentives and the Dynamics of Innovation.
The successful candidates should have a completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, computer science, or a closely related quantitative field. A first-class or equivalent degree is strongly desirable. The candidate should have experience and programming proficiency in R and/or Python, along with working with large datasets. One of the roles will focus on using natural language processing methods applied to large-scale text data; the other will focus on econometric estimation and structural modelling. As such, a background in quantitative economics, specifically industrial organisation and/or innovation is desirable but not essential. For more details, see the attached Job Description.
