About the Role 

The appointed individual will conduct research in collaboration with, and under the supervision of, Dr Karine Rizzoti, contributing to a research programme investigating the dual origin of pituitary gonadotrophs and its relevance to reproductive function in health and disease.

About You

The successful candidate will hold a PhD (or be near completion) in a biological or closely related discipline. The role requires a strong track record of independent research, excellent laboratory skills, and substantial experience working with mice in accordance with ethical and regulatory research standards, including animal handling, experimental procedures, and colony management.

The postholder will contribute to experimental design, data interpretation, and dissemination of research findings. Strong analytical, writing, and presentation skills are essential, including experience preparing manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications. The successful candidate will also assist with mentoring junior researchers and students.

Essential experience includes tissue sample harvesting and preparation, in situ gene and/or protein detection and quantification, advanced microscopy and imaging, and the use of software for data handling, statistical analysis, and figure preparation. Experience in molecular and cell biology techniques is also required and basic bioinformatic skills—particularly manipulation and analysis of single-cell datasets—is desirable.

Candidates should demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills, reliability, effective time management, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.

The William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI), part of Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, is dedicated to excellence in research, teaching, and clinical service in Endocrinology, Cardiovascular Science, and Inflammation. Its research spans basic, clinical, and translational programmes aimed at improving diagnosis, treatment, and health policy in partnership with Barts Health NHS Trust.
