About The University of Buckingham

The University of Buckingham is marking half a century of educational innovation, academic excellence and independent thought in its historic 50th anniversary year.

The University is an established international institution, educating students from across the UK and around the world, as well as contributing significantly to the cultural and economic life of Buckingham and the surrounding area.

Buckingham has a history of innovation. From the pioneering accelerated degree model which saves students time and money, to a demonstrated history of inspiring and empowering graduates to achieve the extraordinary with the mantra of students being a name, never a number – the University is looking to the future as it enters its second half century. The University of Buckingham remains proudly independent, committed to small group teaching, academic freedom and the belief that higher education works best when students are known, challenged, and supported as individuals.

About the role

As The University of Buckingham celebrates 50 years of innovative thinking and independent spirit, this role puts you at the centre of its storytelling. You’ll craft clear, engaging and impactful communications that keep staff informed and connected, while helping to showcase the University’s distinctive vision for its next chapter.

You’ll manage key internal platforms and create compelling content that supports campaigns to elevate Buckingham’s reputation externally. It’s a fast-paced, collaborative role where no two work days look the same – perfect for a creative communicator who thrives on developing meaningful content that inspires.

The Communications Officer will take the lead in writing, creating and distributing content to University staff, while championing best practice in internal communications. Alongside this, the role supports the wider Marketing function by assisting in creating content for a range of digital and print channels.

The position sits in the Communications Team, and reports to the Marketing Communications Manager. The role works closely with the Digital team, wider Marketing team, Human Resources, Digital Transformation team, the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, and IT.

It also liaises with staff and students right across the University. The position manages the staff intranet, staff newsletter, and supports ad-hoc communication requests and institutional projects to ensure that key initiatives achieve their communications objectives with timely, engaging, and accurate content. The role holder will plan, write and edit for a variety of internal and external mediums to ensure organisational initiatives and projects are communicated in an engaging, accurate and succinct way. The role also supports wider marketing activity and public relations initiatives to build, maintain and protect the reputation of the University.
