Faculty of Mathematics - Undergraduate Office Manager

University of Cambridge - Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £35,608 to £46,049
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 18th June 2026
Closes: 19th July 2026
Job Ref: LE49992

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and skilled individual to join the Faculty of Mathematics' professional services team as Undergraduate Office Manager. The successful candidate will lead a team of dedicated administrators, delivering high-quality support across all aspects of undergraduate education.

The Faculty admits around 250 undergraduate students each year, and the team provides operational support for all core functions of the undergraduate programme, such as timetabling, course administration, and examinations for more than 1,500 students. This makes for a busy and varied role, and the appointed candidate will be required to develop an in-depth understanding of all aspects of operations so they can support and successfully lead the Undergraduate Office team.

A substantial part of the annual work cycle is supporting examinations, including production of around 100 examination papers and the on-site delivery of around 80 examinations. This is a large operation, and workload is therefore particularly busy in the lead up to and during the exam period each year. The successful candidate will need flexibility to work additional hours during the exam period in May/June. These operations are set to grow when the Faculty implements modular examinations for third year undergraduate (Part II) examinations in 2027-28, and the role holder will play a key part in supporting this change.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a proactive approach to planning across the annual teaching cycle, alongside excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tasks and processes. You will have experience of first-line management, ideally leading a small administrative team, and a proven ability to coordinate a diverse, high-volume workload while effectively planning and prioritising your own work and that of others. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships at all levels. You will thrive in a collaborative environment engaging with professional services staff, administrators, academics, and both current and prospective students.

Experience in higher education administration would be an advantage.
