The Agriculture and Food Development Authority - Teagasc

Location: Teagasc, Animal and Grassland Research and Innovation Centre, Grange, Dunsany,   Co. Meath.

Grade/Salary: Technician Grade 1, with a starting salary of €28,502 per annum. The current salary scale is €28,502 to €38,757.

Starting pay will be at the minimum of the scale per Government Circular E100/8/82.  Exceptional circumstances may apply for candidates with current or previous service in the public sector (including Teagasc).

Remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government Policy.

Post Type:  Temporary Externally Funded Non Grant-in-Aid contract post, the indicative duration of which is 6 months, subject to contract.

A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such a panel will remain active for a maximum period of 12 months.

Basic Function: The project entitled “Nutritional composition, human health implications and marketing opportunities for beef from a grass-based production system (GrassBeef)” is funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. The objectives are to produce and assess beef from grass-based production systems, in the context of consumer nutrition and health. Beef from a range of production systems has been collected for analysis of a range of constituents considered to have human health benefits. The health effects of feeding grass-fed beef on markers of diabetes and heart disease is being determined in animal models and in an acute intervention/metabolic challenge study in human volunteers by colleagues in University College Dublin.

Person Specification

Note: The ‘Essential’ qualifications, skills and knowledge outlined below are ‘must-have’ which will be used in the shortlisting process.

Essential Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a Level 7 qualification or higher in a laboratory-based science.
  • General laboratory skills particular within an analytical chemistry context.

Desirable Qualifications

  • A Level 8 qualification in analytical chemistry or a related subject would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience of HPLC, GC procedures.
