Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellow in Mathematics

Liverpool Hope University - Department of Mathematics and Computer Science

Liverpool Hope University is a vibrant community with high scholarly standards. We are proud of our past, confident in our present, and ambitious for our future. Research is central to our curriculum development and enhancement and all academic staff at the University engage in research. Building upon our REF 2014 submission we are looking with ambition and confidence to REF 2020, strengthening even further our research degree programme (PhD and EdD). This developing research expertise builds upon and complements our already well established reputation for excellence in teaching and learning. Our policy is to combine these elements of our work in keeping with the University’s stated academic profile as a research-informed teaching University of distinction. It is in this context that we now seek scholars in a number of areas who will join with us in pursuit of excellence; these opportunities include the post of:

Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellow in Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is looking for applicants with a PhD in a core area of Mathematics (see further below), a strong research track record, and the capacity to teach in core areas of our programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Though this is a Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellowship and not Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship, the successful candidate will also be encouraged to make a contribution to a range of research activities within the department and to develop their research profile. Research interests should be compatible with or complement the existing research profile in the department. While applicants with expertise in any area of Mathematics are encouraged to apply, we would be particularly interested in receiving applications from those with a strong research background in one or more of the following areas in Applied Mathematics:

  • Applied Analysis and Nonlinear Mathematics
  • Quantum Computing
  • Numerical Analysis
  • Mathematical Biology
  • Financial Mathematics

Please note that this is a Post-Doctoral Fellowship and a Doctorate is in all cases required. Applications from persons who are nearing completion of a PhD will be considered; however, a PhD will need to have been awarded prior to the post being taken up. Please include the title and a copy of the abstract of your PhD in your application.

This post is a fixed-term appointment from 3rd September 2018 until 30th June 2019.

We recruit staff nationally and internationally as we seek out the best to help build Hope for the future. If you join us you will be doing so at an exciting and challenging time as we work to build a liberal arts inspired university of distinction in the UK. If you have the energy, drive, and commitment to assist us in this task, we would be delighted to hear from you.
