Governance and Executive Support (GES) is part of the Office of the University Secretary, who is responsible for overseeing the University’s governance, assurance and compliance framework and processes.

The GES team provides support services to the University governing body (Council) and its committees, Senate and the University Executive Committee (UEC) and its committees. We manage the flow of business between these bodies and  work on a number of initiatives to improve the University’s governance arrangements and operations.

The 3 Governance Senior Officers work as a team to provide an integrated support service to governance committees but also develop expertise in the areas for which they are the lead support officer.

The post holder will in the first instance support Senate, the Senate Agenda Setting Committee, the work of the Academic Electoral Assembly (the body of all academic staff in the University – the post holder will primarily be responsible for supporting meetings and the election process), and the Provost’s Board (a sub-committee of UEC). Key responsibilities will be to manage agendas and papers, provide officer support to meetings, write papers and committee minutes, manage the flow of business, and communicate information from committees across the University.

The post holder will also support projects to improve the University’s governance and compliance arrangements, executive operations, and the effectiveness of the University Secretary’s Office (USO) and GES business, including in the first instance acting as the USO Health and Safety Officer and Fire Officer and managing Third Party Complaints.
