We are currently looking to recruit a Disability Inclusion Advisor to a permanent full-time role.

The Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Department provides high quality, professional services to support potential and current students from their initial enquiry to Edinburgh Napier University through to graduation. A wide range of support for students is embedded across the University, provided through a variety of services. These include Disability Inclusion, Student Funding, Counselling and Mental Wellbeing, Student Accommodation, Academic Skills, Widening Participation and School Personal Development Tutors.

The role

The Disability Inclusion Adviser will provide advice, guidance and support to students on a range of support issues from enquiry through to completion of academic studies. There will be a particular focus on students with an SPLD and/or AD(H)D.

The role holder will liaise and negotiate with University staff on the adjustments required to enable students to succeed on their academic programmes and will advise staff on enhancing the accessibility of programmes and services.

The role will focus on supporting students studying at the Sighthill campus but will also work with colleagues to support students at the Craiglockhart and Merchiston campuses.

The team are currently providing the services remotely online.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for someone with a proactive, positive collaborative approach to working with both internal and external stakeholders alike, someone who, ideally, has extensive experience of supporting people with specific learning difficulties, disabilities and health difficulties. You will have a degree or substantial relevant work experience. Communication skills, both written and oral, are key in this position.

Candidates must evidence the essential criteria for the role, such as:

  • A degree or substantial equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the disability provisions of the Equality Act 2010 in Further and Higher Education.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of inclusion and accessibility.
  • Ability to assess effectively student needs and administer screening tests for specific learning difficulties, if required.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the role of technology based solutions for students with additional support needs.
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise work effectively, to manage own workload, and to balance competing demands in order to meet agreed deadlines.
  • An understanding and respect for diversity, including the ability to engage with students from a wide range of cultures and with a range of support needs.
