The Course Leader for BA Textile Design will assume responsibility for the academic leadership and management of the course, working closely with Year Leaders to support course organisation and management and the student experience.

You will take responsibility for the design, development and delivery of the curriculum, leading the revalidated BA Textile Design which moves through into Stage 3 this year (2021/22) embedding practice and theory in Unit 9 and 10. You will lead on the process of course development, modifications, major changes, validation and review by the University, external agencies, professional bodies with the Programme Director, textile team and the Dean to drive forward the course’s future development.

You will preside over the day-to-day management of the course including all areas of learning, teaching, assessment and resource allocation. You will play a key role in the recruitment and ongoing development of this course.

Your profile

We are looking for a motivated academic with a postgraduate qualification appropriate to the subject area of Textile Design. You will have experience of course administration, pedagogic innovation, assessment processes and procedures essential for the role. You will take a dynamic and broad approach to Textile Design education, with experience of working in interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary practices and specialism in two or more of the following: inclusive and social design, sustainability, circular design, print, weave, knit, stitch, mixed media, smart/e-textiles and emerging technologies, critical practice, bio-design.

To inspire students and staff alike, you must be a leading practitioner in your field and always up to date with the latest developments in the industry. You will maintain strong links with design practitioners from a wide range of professions, subjects and disciplines and build collaborative links with a range of institutions and employers. You will have the ability to manage a large staff team and confidence in managing large groups and communicating in a range of learning environments, including teaching via online platforms, on site large and small studio spaces, lecture theatres and seminar spaces.
