We are looking for an Executive Projects and Support Manager to join a friendly, high-performing team at the Birmingham Business School. This is a great opportunity to support the delivery of projects that are central to our success.

You will work closely with our Dean, Director of Business School Operations, and other senior colleagues to support the development and delivery of a range of projects including a refresh of our School strategy, work to devise and approve a new suite of postgraduate programmes, and the continued development of our leadership in responsible business. Typically, you will work with senior colleagues in the School to develop an internal business case – by compiling reports, papers, briefings, and analysing management information – before working collaboratively with stakeholders across the University to secure approval for the relevant task or project. You will then support operational staff in the School to introduce and embed the work into their day-to-day practice.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a ‘can do’ attitude and outstanding interpersonal skills. You will be able to combine strategic thinking with successful implementation and have the political nous to navigate a busy and complex organisation. You will bring ideas, enthusiasm, and a drive to get things done.

The key duties of the post are:

  • To provide planning and project management capacity that can operate flexibly across the School.
  • To undertake analysis work, both quantitative and qualitative, to support the development of internal business cases and project proposals.
  • Working with academic and Professional Services leads and colleagues across the University, actively manage a range of projects which support the delivery of the School’s strategy by ensuring initiatives become embedded in ‘business as usual’ and deliver the expected benefits.
  • Working closely with business partners and colleagues in central professional services, compile research summaries, competitor review and analysis, and presentations of data which contribute to the definition and evaluation of initiatives within the School.
  • To establish collaborative, professional, and successful relationships with colleagues in the School, College/Faculty, and appropriate teams across the wider University to ensure that the School’s initiatives are integrated with wider strategic priorities and activities taking place within the across the University.
  • To lead a small team that provides personal assistance and project and events support to the School’s Strategic Management Team.

Person Specification:

  • An undergraduate degree is essential, with postgraduate qualification desirable, including evidence of self-directed research.
  • Supervisory or management experience, with the ability to build, motivate, and manage the performance of teams.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing projects in a complex organisation.
  • Experience of developing effective networks and strong relationships with academics, Professional Services and other partners.
