JOB OVERVIEW

Dublin International Study Centre offers pathway programmes designed to help international students prepare for university, and life in Ireland. After completing a programme at the International Study Centre, students will be ready to progress to an Irish university with the confidence and skills needed to succeed. 

The UCD International Study Centre in Dublin is looking for Academic English Skills Tutor to join our team. Teaching on our International Foundation Year programmes, you will provide innovative, engaging and student-centred lessons for our Academic English Skills and related modules. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan appropriate, effective and inclusive learning programmes through schemes of work that take into account the diversity of the cohort
  • Plan engaging and communicative teaching sessions which accommodate individualised learning using a variety of resources and in-house materials provided, including digital learning
  • Ensure a broad range of learning materials are available on the VLE for students to access and engage with, including self-directed tasks and activities that facilitate feedback and interaction
  • Apply the principles of the centre’s Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy to provide learning activities to meet curriculum requirements and the needs of all students
  • Teach a maximum of 25 hours per week
  • Apply the theories and principles of assessment including initial, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment
  • Provide regular and timely feedback to students to enable them to improve and achieve their qualifications
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of student attendance and progress
  • Support students with individual target setting and revise these throughout the year during progress checks
  • Be available to offer support to students as required (e.g. workshops, booster and revision classes, tutorials and one-to-one feedback sessions)
  • Demonstrate and update subject specialist knowledge to ensure the currency of specialist teaching
  • Engage in professional development to improve teaching and learning practice, and update subject specialist knowledge
  • Work as part of the academic team to produce and develop an exciting curriculum for students
  • Implement quality assurance procedures at module and teaching session level and contribute to the annual monitoring and review of courses 

EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification (Essential)
  • A minimum of CELTA qualification or equivalent (Essential)
  • A DELTA or related postgraduate qualification would be advantageous (Desirable)
  • Substantial experience in working with international students teaching EAP (Essential)
  • Ability to develop and update teaching material and preferably experience of working with a Virtual Learning Environment
