Assisting the Data Protection Team in providing legal advice on a wide range of data protection matters

The objective of this role is to support the existing Data Protection Team in providing legal advice on a wide range of data protection matters, with a focus on assisting with the integration of newly acquired businesses into BPP’s existing data protection regime.  The role will involve advising the entire BPP Professional Education Group (both in the UK and internationally) on general data protection matters, including in relation to student and staff personal data.   In addition, the role will have a commercial element with the successful candidate assisting on commercial contracts which have data protection considerations (such as IT contracts).

This is a hybrid role with the successful candidate required to attend BPP Offices (London Portsoken Street) two to three days a week, and any additional days as reasonably required.

What you’ll be doing

Working with newly acquired businesses to assess their data protection arrangements / compliance and identifying areas for improvement and alignment with central BPP group policy.  Working with the existing Data Protection Team to provide data protection advice across the business and advising on commercial contracts with significant data protection considerations.

What we’re looking for

• Be a qualified solicitor in England and Wales (we are looking for a 2-3 years PQE solicitor, though applications from any PQE will be considered).
• Have demonstrable experience in advising on data protection matters and all aspects of data protection law.
• Be comfortable answering a wide range of queries relating to data protection, including from both a B2B and B2C perspective.
• Be comfortable advising on data protection agreements (such as DPAs and data sharing agreements) and advising on commercial contracts with a data protection focus.
• Possess exceptional problem-solving, team, communication, and client management skills.
