An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Skills Centre at the University of Bath for a SAS Coordinator and Teaching Fellow. This role will lead, manage, deliver and monitor the Statistics Advisory Service (SAS) within the Mathematics Resources Centre (MASH). This extracurricular service offers advice, support and enhancement of learning for students with higher-level statistical and data analysis requirements. 

We are looking for someone with experience in the use of applied data analysis, with management experience and high-level communication skills to:

  • provide expert advice, to undergraduates, postgraduates or staff undertaking research, on the analysis of data and use of statistics 
  • manage a team building high-quality data analysis support, revision and student-centred learning experiences 

MASH provides high-quality maths and statistics support to all members of the university. We are a flagship for academic skills support in the university, and are highly regarded at the national level where we contribute significantly to the work of the Sigma Network.

As part of the MASH team, through the continual review and improvement of our services, help us meet the needs of all our students! 

ABOUT YOU

As a graduate with a good first degree, and possibly a postgraduate qualification, in statistics, data science or with high statistical content you will have proven skills as an applied statistician and/or data scientist. Your experience and expertise will include:

  • Extensive knowledge of techniques and technology for data and statistical analysis 
  • Experience providing expert guidance, advice or consultancy and of establishing collaborations with colleagues from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds
  • Experience of leading services or projects and of managing staff

Your experience providing support to non-specialists will demonstrate your strong communication skills and empathy with those for whom statistics or working with data is unfamiliar or daunting. 

A desire to engage with the wider mathematics support community, for example through Sigma, is beneficial.
