This role is an embedded Faculty role in the Research Development Function, based within the REIS Research and Innovation Hubs – this team as a whole is tasked with identifying funding opportunities and supporting the application process, contracts, research governance & integrity.
Do you enjoy working on research bids and providing an excellent service to researchers? The Research Development Bid Writer is a critical role in the delivery of research support, embedded in the Faculty Research & Innovation Hub. Working as part of the Research Development Function, the post-holder will provide academics with proactive preparation, drafting, and editing of funding applications to ensure that all applications are well-written, of a high quality, and accessible to lay readers. A member of the Department of Research, Engagement and Innovation Services (REIS), the post holder will support activities to identify appropriate funding calls and prioritise Hub responses to external funding opportunities in conjunction with potential PIs, ensuring compliance with University policies and procedures, and funding providers’ guidelines. The role requires regular networking and engagement with the Hub’s research community and with researchers across the University in order to build familiarity with the breadth of the University’s research portfolio, and to stimulate opportunities for interdisciplinary research. The role combines elements of technical communication, marketing and copywriting with the ability to communicate succinctly and effectively to a range of audiences ideas which may be complex. The role holder must also be familiar with the requirements, expectations and conventions of different funding bodies (particularly RCUK and EU).
The post holder will work as an integrated part of the Research Hub team, responding to Faculty priorities, reporting progress and working effectively with other professional service roles to provide an effective and joined-up service to researchers.

You will have a degree or equivalent experience.
Experience will include evidence of significant experience in identifying funding opportunities, supporting the development of externally funded research bids with direct experience aligned to a Faculty, noting any experience of making connections to humanities and social sciences. Evidence of working in an outcome focussed environment with the ability to monitor performance against target will be required.
