PDRA (up to 3 years): Building to Urban Boundary Layer scale Meteorology

You will be involved in state-of-the-art urban meteorological research being undertaken by an international multi-disciplinary team developing, evaluating and applying the next generation of weather and climate models, and also considering what atmospheric observations are needed in cities in the future. This work is being undertaken within three projects (EPSRC-FUTURE, NERC-ASSURE and ERC-urbisphere) that span fundamental atmospheric processes to integrated urban services. You will take a leading role analysing real world observations, while working closely with others undertaking wind-tunnel observations, numerical modelling (LES, NWP, Climate, ABM) and others analysing observations.

You will have:

  • Experience using and analyzing data from at least one of the following instruments (or equivalent): Doppler Wind Lidars (DWL), Scintillometry, IRT Cameras use in 3-D, Ceilometers (ALC)
  • PhD in an appropriate subject (e.g. meteorology, climatology, environmental science, physics, engineering, computer science, physical geography)
  • Excellent computing and data management skills
  • Good problem-solving skills (e.g. programming problems, data analysis, instrument)
  • Ability to prioritize urgent/long term goals and to juggle tasks as priorities change
  • Ability to work well with others and independently
  • Good oral and excellent written English skills
