The Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre (TaLIC) is a Professional Service Department within Goldsmiths, University of London. TaLIC’s main aim is to help Goldsmiths deliver excellence in all areas of learning and teaching. We do that by working in partnership with departments to provide:

  1. support, consultation, guidance, and advice in all aspects of university pedagogy;
  2. research, evaluation and development, technical support, advice and skill training on e-learning, particularly with respect to Goldsmiths’ Virtual Learning Environment, learn.gold;
  3. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities including certified programmes in university pedagogy such as with the Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (hereafter referred to as PG Cert) and the Experiential Route to Higher Education Academy Fellowship;
  4. advice, support and technical assistance in the development and delivery of Distance Learning courses and programmes.

TaLIC is managed by the Pro-Warden for teaching and learning enhancement. There is an Academic Director of TaLIC, two Learning Technologists, a Lecturer in Teaching in Higher Education who is the programme leader for the PG Cert, a team of E-learning advisors, an Educational Developer, and administrative support.

The purpose of the role is to provide practical and technical support to academic and professional services staff in their innovative use of technology enhanced learning (TEL) (in general) and the use of the online learning environments in particular, including the Moodle virtual learning environment (VLE) and Mahara, the collaborative and portfolio environment.

  1. Provide technical support for staff in a variety of ways including responding to email and telephone enquiries forwarded by IT&IS Help Desk staff, E-learning Advisors and E-learning Support Assistants.
  2. Provide training to staff through the development of help guides and the delivery of group and online workshops.
  3. Support in the evaluation, testing and deployment of relevant software including Turnitin, Moodle, Panopto and their plugins.
  4. Promote, in partnership with the team of academic developers and other Goldsmiths staff, successful teaching and learning practice with learning technologies.
  5. Capture and summarise issues raised by staff to feed into the Centre’s departmental liaison processes and project planning.
  6. Contribute to requirements gathering; gain an insight into the needs of staff and students at Goldsmiths through review, consultation and evaluation of both established practices and innovative interventions.
  7. Keep abreast of and disseminate successful TEL practice.
  8. Provide mentoring, training and advice to IT&IS Help Desk staff and other TaLIC staff on responding to basic everyday TEL enquiries.
  9. Design or collaborate on relevant research projects; where appropriate apply for external funding, and participate in formal and informal dissemination exercises.
  10. Undertake all the duties as a core member of TaLIC and contribute to the collaborative ethos of initiatives.
  11. You will be required to undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required.
  12. Ensure that you are aware of and aligned with Goldsmiths’ Regulations, Strategy, and Objectives to work together to proactively advance Equality and Diversity.
  13. At all times to help maintain a safe working environment by participating in training as necessary and following the Goldsmiths’ Health and Safety Codes of Practice and Policy.
