The role
The University of Bristol seeks to appoint a Language Director in French from 1 August 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter. We welcome applications at both Lecturer and Senior Lecturer level for this post.
What will you be doing?
We are looking for an outstanding candidate to provide leadership in maintaining our portfolio of French language courses. The successful candidate is expected to play an instrumental role in the life of the School. We are committed to an enterprising outlook, engaging with potential partners both within the University and in the city of Bristol and beyond.
You will be expected to contribute to language teaching at all levels. This may include a focus on professional language use, business culture, translation and interpreting studies, or the practice of language teaching. You will be responsible for managing a large team of teaching staff and work with the Director of Foreign Language Teaching to ensure that the curriculum continues to be innovative and forward looking to meet the challenges of the 21st century. In addition, you will have oversight and responsibility for the Year Abroad and support and coordinate extracurricular activities.
You will also play a key role in quality assurance and embedding and disseminating best practice. This may include publication of practice-based research and support for colleagues engaging in scholarship related to the teaching and learning of languages.

The successful candidate will have native or near native competence in French and English, a relevant postgraduate qualification in language teaching or applied linguistics and extensive experience of management of language teaching in Higher Education.
