Do you want to join a large, supportive, enthusiastic team of statisticians who help to save and improve lives?

The Statistics and Clinical Research group of NHSBT is responsible for the design and analysis of studies in organ and tissue donation and transplantation, blood donation and transfusion medicine. The group incorporates the NHSBT Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), which is responsible for the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials in all areas of NHSBT’s activity so clinical trial experience is preferred. The analysis and interpretation of results informs decision-making on developments in donation, transplantation and transfusion, the clinical care of donors and patients, and equity of access to treatment.

Hybrid working with some office attendance at Stoke Gifford, Bristol.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to answer queries and carry out statistical analyses of data arising from audits, trials and other studies in blood, organ and tissue donation, organ transplantation and transfusion medicine. This also involves reporting results and information to other staff in NHSBT, specialist advisory groups, the Department of Health, clinical staff in blood and transplantation services and other interested parties.

You will ensure that analyses are relevant and undertaken in a timely, robust and effective manner, contributing to a continually improving quality of care for transplant recipients.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Able to present statistical concepts and findings to all levels of audience, including small working parties, large formal meetings, senior managers, clinicians, statisticians and at conferences (national and international).
  • Experience in the application of statistics in a medical environment.
  • Experience of managing workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge and experience of using univariate and multifactorial survival analysis and advanced modelling techniques.
  • Experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Experience of using IT systems to produce reports and correspondence which are timely, professional and accurate.

Qualifications and Training

  • Possess a degree or post-graduate qualification in a statistical subject.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD).
