About the Role
The Payroll and Pensions Manager is responsible for the delivery of an outstanding payroll and pensions service to clients across the University. This includes providing an efficient and effective service to Queen Mary and its companies, and ensuring compliance with all statutory legislation. The post holder will lead on process improvement initiatives, anticipating and dealing with issues and ensuring that the Payroll and Pensions Team provides a responsive, professional and friendly service.
The role holder will operate with a supportive and proactive approach while providing, through their team, appropriate, high quality and timely advice and guidance to managers in effectively dealing with their day-to-day payroll needs.
About You
You will have demonstrable success in leading teams to deliver excellent customer-focused payroll services, along with the requisite expert knowledge of current payroll best practice and legislative requirements. Experience of overseeing an effective pensions team will also be an advantage.
As a driving force for effective and proactive service delivery, you will have practical experience of leading and managing process and design improvements, working with multiple stakeholders and an ability to communicate and report technical information to a non-technical and diverse customer-base.
Holding or working towards a CIPP Payroll Management qualification (or equivalent experience/ professional qualification), you will have expert user knowledge of HR/payroll and the requisite IT skills. Experience of working in a Higher Education or NHS environment is desirable (or other similar public sector) is desirable.

The role is full-time and permanent and is available as an immediate start. It is based at our new Department W building, in Whitechapel, London, and offered with the opportunity for hybrid (i.e. a mixture of home based and office) working.
The starting salary will be in the range from £50,047 to £55,805 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
