About us
The UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (GOS ICH) The mission of the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health is to improve the health and well-being of children, and the adults they will become, through world-class research, education and public engagement. The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range of teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health. GOS ICH holds an Athena SWAN Charter Gold Award.
About the role
GOS ICH has five research and teaching departments, each of which is supported by a small Professional Service Support (PSS) team. The successful candidate will manage the PSS team in the Developmental Neurosciences Department. The team is the ‘hub’ of the Department, providing a broad and varied range of administrative support, including HR, Finance, Events, management of the Departmental webpages and social media accounts, event coordination and day-to-day operational support. The position will provide the post-holder an excellent opportunity to develop their management skills and to gain a solid foundation in all aspects of PSS support in a busy and dynamic research and teaching environment. This post is also available on secondment basis. This post is available for 12 months, in the first instance.

They will demonstrate a proven ability to plan, prioritise and manage a demanding and varied workload. They will be efficient, enthusiastic, organised and take a proactive approach to their work. They will be able to work independently, as well as part of a team. A commitment to deliver a high standard of customer service is essential. Administrative work within the Higher Education sector or similar is desirable. The role requires interaction with a wide range of staff both within and external to UCL, and a professional attitude, willingness to help and a positive outlook are essential.
