The Research and Enterprise Office (REO) is an Administrative Section within the university’s Professional Services. The REO supports the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) and the Faculty Executive Deans in the development and implementation of the university’s Research Strategy. The REO delivers services to the University’s academic community to support a range of research, impact and knowledge exchange activities. The section also contributes to a wide range of business engagement activities and facilitates the delivery of services to business as well as to the wider economic community. Duties of the Role
The Research Impact Officer will work with academics, primarily from our School of Law and Essex Business School and professional services colleagues to contribute to the understanding, development and promotion of research impact; to support the development and implementation of processes to capture, evaluate, and communicate the impact of the University’s research; and to support the preparation of impact case studies for future REF exercises.

Skills and qualifications required
Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) or above, the post holder will have strong communication skills (written and verbal) combined with an ability to interpret and articulate complex guidelines. The post holder will have a good understanding of the Higher Education research impact agenda, and how impact is assessed in the Research Excellence Framework, a strong understanding of knowledge exchange and impact and an appreciation for the different ways in which research can benefit the economy, society and the environment. The post holder will have the ability to confidently communicate and work collaboratively with individuals of all levels internally and externally, including academic and professional services staff and external stakeholders. With highly developed administrative, organisational and project management skills, the post holder will have a problem solving and solution orientated approach and the ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines in a busy and demanding environment. The post holder will have a proactive and enthusiastic approach, the ability to use their own initiative and work alone or as part of a wider team.
