We are seeking applications for a Research Associate to develop multimodal data fusion techniques for smart agricultural data utilisation and analytic. As a leading member of the Innovate UK: UK-China - funded FcIMCS project (Farmer-centred Interoperable Mobile-Cloud System: Integrating Data from Farming Activities and Environmental Information for Sustainable Fertiliser Management), you will work alongside Dr. Po Yang (po.yang@sheffield.ac.uk ) in the Department of Computer Science, and with both UK industrial partners (AntData and Velcourt) and China partners. More details about the project can be found here: www.sites.google.com/sheffield.ac.uk/fcimcs/home
Our goal is to develop techniques that optimise deep learning-based data fusion and visualisation algorithms for effective aggregating personal farmer daily fertiliser data and environmental information. A set of intelligent reasoning algorithms will be used and deployed in this platform for suggesting wise fertiliser recommendation with the economic benefits to farmers. You will help us to develop these techniques and, with the support of a Research Software Engineer, will develop software tools to make them accessible to practitioners. This will involve close collaboration with our partners in industry.
This role will extend and develop your knowledge of data fusion, visual analytic and computational modelling. You can hone your communication skills by contributing to research publications and running workshops and events to build a network of researchers and practitioners. You will hold a PhD in a relevant subject, or shortly will be assessed for a PhD level qualification (or have equivalent experience). Proof of publication in relevant leading peer reviewed conferences and/or journals is important along with experience in multi-modality data fusion and visual analytics. Some knowledge of mobile intelligence and pervasive computing would be highly desirable.
We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.
We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
