Independent thinker – space for creativity and to make your mark
The food offer at Queen Mary Students’ Union is varied, wide ranging and integral to the student and staff experience at Queen Mary University of London. From street food stalls to bar & kitchen menus, to hospitality delivery and bespoke events, across different sites, there is an excellent opportunity for us to grow within this space and we are looking for someone to join on us on this journey.
This is a brand-new role within the organisation and is an opportunity to swap the 60 hours weeks of the hospitality industry whilst being able to put your stance on venue menu development, kitchen training and much more
The primary role of the Venues Chef is to ensure the effective ordering, preparation and cooking of the agreed venue menu and hospitality catering events to the highest possible standards. You will be expected to ensure the highest safety standards, with the ability to work alongside the rest of the team to develop venue menus, ensuring efficient and effective product procurement. This role will primarily take place across at Drapers Bar & Kitchen but will include events and delivery at our other sites, including Shield Café, Ground Café and occasionally Griff Inn Bar & Kitchen.
You should be a ‘hands on’, organised and approachable leader who is committed to the values of the organisation, being a safe, friendly environment with the student experience at its core, by training them as your kitchen staff to assist in the management of the kitchen. This role’s hours would be predominantly Monday – Friday but an expectation of evening and weekend work is required in order to operate around the needs of the business and to appreciate the training needs of our student staff team.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills and have the ability to work with a wide range of people. Candidates must have the ability to work well under pressure, prioritise service and student staff development amongst other projects taking place.
The post is a permanent post with a starting salary within the range £29,642 - £36,348 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, plus additional college closure days which include bank holidays and additional days over the Christmas period. We also offer a generous defined benefits pension scheme, interest-free season ticket loan, cycle to work scheme, employee assistance programme and free membership of the Sport and Fitness Centre.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
