The role
As the role holder you will provide specialist advice, direction and input to the research data team. You will manage all systems and technical infrastructures that support the research and its data collection activities, devises innovative solutions to ensure the continued development of the long-term strategic vision for data supporting systems and its operational implementation, and provides technical support for information security compliance.
What will you be doing?
- Lead on the development of new research data systems and functionality, designing and delivering technical solutions and overseeing the installation and successful implementation of databases, evaluating all potential options and ensuring the optimal solution before signing off
- Support the operation of the Information Security Management Systems
- Line manage a team of staff, dealing with people issues in line with policy, undertaking workforce planning
- Project manage and report on the status of systems and their development
- Manage the systems that support identified research activity, horizon scanning to be aware of technical issues and known threats, prioritising change requests, initiating and overseeing systems changes to ensure standards are being met
- Ensure that the data management strategy is adhered to, raising issues that arise, assisting with problem solving
- Ensure compliance with information security legislation and national codes of practice.
- Provide professional advice, support and guidance to study contributors, data users and colleagues
- Share best practice and develop new and improved processes in collaboration with other relevant research studies and the wider community
You should apply if
- Proven ability to effectively lead, direct and manage a team of technical staff
- Thorough understanding of all legislation regarding data management, confidentiality and security
- Proven aptitude for programming and technical configuration of systems
- Proven ability to manage multiple competing projects simultaneously
- Excellent understanding of current and developing technologies used for storing and accessing research data
- Further evidence of training relevant to the position
- Ability to lead technical staff in implementing new systems and procedures and to support with complex specific technical problems
- Ability to communicate technically complex ideas
- Proven innovation and problem solving skills
- Proven ability to influence and negotiate with different levels of staff and external contacts
- Experience of ensuring compliance with information security standards
- Experience working in a clinical trial/research environment and ensuring compliance with MHRA regulations
