ABOUT US
Transforming lives through excellent education
London Met is an extraordinary institution. Equity and social inclusion have always been our driving principles, and it's what makes the University so unique. Our organisation is distinctive, both in its eclectic and diverse community of students and staff, and also for its historical role in serving some of London’s most deprived boroughs. Everything we do is underpinned by our philosophy that an individual should have the opportunity to transform their life through the power of education.
Equipping our students with the tools for their future is at the heart of our academic offering. We pride ourselves on providing our students with access to a wealth of opportunities and professions. Our graduates benefit personally, but also contribute their unique perspectives to society, culture, public service and the economy in all areas of London, the UK and around the world.
ABOUT THE POST
The Student Conduct Officer is an integral role to the University’s commitment to tackling harassment and hate and forms part of the Student Casework Office within the Department of Vice-Chancellor’s Office. The postholder will be the main point of contact for, and be responsible for, all referrals, investigations and reports non-academic student misconduct across the University. They must be able to make informed and impartial decisions concerning precautionary actions and investigations in a timely manner, as well as present cases of significant misconduct to panel for hearings.
The postholder will manage a caseload of conduct cases throughout the year, including cases that may also be a criminal offence, or a safeguarding concern and be able to liaise with external and internal agencies such as the police, social services, solicitors or Student Services. The Student Conduct Officer is expected to ensure that cases are dealt with in a timely, fair, independent and confidential manner and in accordance to University policy, regulations and procedures.
Student conduct is a highly complex area of work and one that requires careful consideration and a strong understanding of the wider regulatory framework that the policy and processes sit within, as well as where this may coincide with, or need to be referred to a different policy or process. The postholder will be required to be approachable and assertive; able to deal with challenging behaviour whilst being fair and professional.
The postholder will work with relevant stakeholders to lead on all activities and processes that relate to non-academic misconduct across the University. This is an opportunity for a highly skilled and self-motivated individual to develop a sector leading service in a significant area in the sector.
