Role description

The Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) at the University of York is recruiting a Senior Research Fellow/ Medical Statistician to lead health technology assessment and evidence synthesis projects, provide advanced statistical guidance, develop methods for use in evidence synthesis and contribute to departmental leadership.

CRD is an academic research department (www.york.ac.uk/crd) that specialises in and is at the forefront of evidence synthesis. Our systematic reviews and other evidence synthesis projects span a broad range of health and public health areas to provide best evidence to inform policy and practice decisions, and are underpinned by a programme of methodological development and commitment to knowledge exchange. Our research provides a fertile ground for methods development with many evidence synthesis projects generating data and research questions requiring methodological advances.

Following a top ten place in REF21, implementation of a new research strategy and award of funding to establish a new NIHR Evidence Synthesis Group, we have created several additional posts including this position. The person appointed will work mainly within our NIHR Technology Assessment Reviews (TAR) programme, which informs NICE decision-making, but may also work within other programmes. They will also have the opportunity to develop their own research interests, being able to draw on CRD staff expertise including information specialists, systematic reviewers, health economists and early career statisticians and have the support of the departmental leadership team to do so.

CRD is a friendly and supportive department that embraces hybrid and flexible working patterns including part-time hours, enabling staff to work partly remotely (within the UK) according to project needs and their preferences. We are committed to diversity and equality and fostering an inclusive culture where we can all be ourselves. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates and particularly encourage applications from people who identify as being from the Black African and Caribbean Heritage community, Asian or other ethnic background that is underrepresented at the University.

CRD is also advertising a Research Fellow position which may be of interest to members of applicants’ teams or completing PhD students.

This is a full-time position, but we will also consider applicants who wish to work part-time provided that this is at least 60% of a whole time equivalent (3 days per week).

We expect interviews to take place virtually in May

For informal enquiries: please contact Professor Sofia Dias (sofia.dias@york.ac.uk) or Professor Lesley Stewart (lesley.stewart@york.ac.uk)

The University strives to be diverse and inclusive  – a place where we can ALL be ourselves.

We particularly encourage applications from people who identify as  Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, who are underrepresented at the University.

We also encourage applications from women for senior roles.

We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements, with forums and inclusive facilities to support our staff. #EqualityatYork
