A postdoctoral scientist position is available in Prof Michael Ardern-Jones’ group in Skin Research, Clinical & Experimental Sciences (CES), Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton (UoS). The group is studying the impact of environmental factors on skin related inflammation using multiomic approaches (epigenetics, proteomics and RNA-Seq). This is part of a collaboration with Prof Tilman Sanchez-Elsner, Molecular Medicine group and Assoc Prof Andres Vallejo Pulido, Systems Biology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton.
Prof M Ardern-Jones group studies atopic eczema and in particular the role of the microbiome and influence of allergen on the origin of skin inflammation using in vivo and in vitro skin research models.
The post will be full-time for 31 months or part-time, funded by industrial sponsors, awarded to Prof M Ardern-Jones.
Candidates must hold or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. A strong background in molecular biology is ideal but not critical. The project will require laboratory tissue handling including skin cell culture, but the techniques employed are already in use in our lab and can be taught. A unique aspect of this post is that the successful applicant will be provided full training and support to develop their skills in bioinformatic analysis with a particular focus on epigenetic analysis including ATAC-seq. This component will be led by Assoc Prof Andres Vallejo Pulido, who also teaches on Cold Spring Harbour Bioinformatics courses.
Therefore, we especially welcome applications from enthusiastic candidates with some prior experience of a molecular laboratory, but with a keen interest and willingness to learn advanced bioinformatics.
We offer an exciting and stimulation work environment with local and international scientific collaborations. The skin research group in CES and the Southampton. The position will be based in the Wellcome Trust laboratory.
Besides a great research environment, Southampton and its surrounding provide a beautiful place to live.
